01Who we are
SoundDeck (“SoundDeck”, “we”, “us”) is operated from Belgium and is the data controller for personal data processed through getsounddeck.com and the SoundDeck desktop app.
Questions or requests: email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject line.
02The SoundDeck desktop app
SoundDeck is built local-first. Everything the app works with is stored on your own PC and is never sent to us:
- Your sound library — imported files, folders, tags and favourites.
- Hotkeys and numpad layouts, voice changer presets and audio device choices.
- Instant Replay and Audio Studio — buffered audio and clips you save or edit.
- App settings, stored under your Windows user profile.
The app contains no analytics, advertising or telemetry SDKs. Microphone audio is processed on your PC and routed to the output device you choose, for example VB-CABLE.
Steam. Purchases, payments, refunds and Steam Workshop uploads are handled by Valve Corporation under Valve’s own privacy policy. We never receive your payment details.
03Phone Companion Deck
The Companion Deck lets your phone trigger sounds over your local Wi-Fi. Your phone talks directly to the SoundDeck app on your PC over your own network. Those button presses and the sound list do not pass through our servers, and we cannot see them.
04Remote Producer
Remote Producer lets someone you approve trigger sounds on your deck from a browser at getsounddeck.com/portal. How it works:
- Host approval. Every producer has to be approved by the host inside the app. The host sees the display name the producer enters.
- Peer-to-peer connection. Once approved, the producer’s browser and the host’s app connect directly over WebRTC. To set up that connection, a signalling service (PeerJS) and public STUN/TURN relay servers briefly process both sides’ IP addresses and a session identifier. If a direct route isn’t possible, a TURN relay may carry the encrypted traffic.
- Script delivery. The portal loads the PeerJS library from the unpkg or jsDelivr CDNs, which receive your IP address and browser details as part of serving the file.
- Nothing stored by us. We do not record, log or keep the contents of Remote Producer sessions. Session codes exist only while the session runs.
05VIP beta signups & launch emails
If you join the VIP beta list on our homepage, we store:
- your email address;
- the role you picked (tester, streamer or gamer);
- your IP address, browser user agent and the time you signed up — kept to stop spam and duplicate signups.
Why: to send beta invites and launch news about SoundDeck. Nothing else, and we never sell or rent the list.
Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time, and withdrawing doesn’t affect anything we did before.
How long: until you withdraw consent or we stop running the list, whichever comes first. To be removed, email [email protected] from the address you signed up with.
06Website visits & server logs
Like any web server, ours records basic request data whenever you visit: IP address, browser user agent, requested page, referrer and timestamp.
We use these logs only to keep the site secure and working — blocking abuse, rate-limiting attacks and fixing errors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure service (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Logs are rotated and deleted automatically, normally within 14 days, unless we need them to investigate an active security incident.
We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, fingerprinting or any other cross-site tracking.
07Hosting & service providers
A small number of providers process data for us, each only as far as needed for their service:
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany) — hosts our website, API and beta list on servers in the EU.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — content delivery, TLS encryption and DDoS protection. Every request to getsounddeck.com passes through Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare may process data outside the EU under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Valve Corporation — Steam store, payments, updates and Steam Workshop.
- PeerJS, unpkg and jsDelivr — only when you use Remote Producer, as described above.
08Browser storage
getsounddeck.com sets no cookies. With your permission we keep a few preferences in your browser’s local storage, such as demo volume, favourites and whether you already joined the beta. Every key, what it does and how to remove it is listed in our Cookie Policy.
09Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- Correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”);
- Restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interest;
- Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format;
- Withdraw consent at any time, for example to leave the beta list.
Email us and we’ll respond within one month. We may ask you to confirm you own the email address involved. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be) or the supervisory authority where you live.
10Children
SoundDeck is a gaming tool, not a service aimed at children. Don’t join the beta list if you are under 13. If you believe a child has given us their email, contact us and we’ll delete it.
11Security
All traffic to getsounddeck.com is encrypted with TLS. Our signup API validates and limits every input, the database is not reachable from the internet, and access to servers is restricted to the operator. We keep as little data as possible, so there is as little as possible to lose.
12Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the effective date at the top. Material changes affecting the beta list will be announced by email before they take effect.
